Backpack Society partners with schools in Douglas County, Littleton and Englewood School Districts to provide meals to kids on weekend and breaks when they don't have access to the school meal programs. We also provide weekly groceries to their family or school staff that might need extra help.

By partnering with schools we are able to identify kids struggling with food insecurity. With the assistance of the parent or the school, kids are signed up for the program(s) that work best for their situation.

Backpack Society Programs

Student Weekend Bags

Students receive a bag of food each week during the school year, each bag contains 6 meals plus snacks. Bags are packed and delivered to the school by Backpack Society volunteers and the school will distribute them to the student before the weekend.

Family Grocery Program

A weekly grocery program meant to assist not only the child, but their family too. Families have a choice of receiving a weekly grocery box or shopping in our the Backpack Society "No Cost" Market. Both options provide dairy, eggs, meat, fresh produce and pantry items. Whether receiving a box or shopping families have are able to customize for food allergies.

*The grocery program is available to school staff as well.

School Partner Program

We know that school staff often use their own money to provided resources for kids. Our goal is to take the burden off the teachers and School Resource Officers(SRO) by providing the following options:

In-School Pantry - Backpack Society partner schools have the choice of requesting an in-school pantry. The pantry helps kids that have come to school without a snack.

Crisis Boxes or Food Box-An emergent supply of food and basic toiletries to help students or a family until they can be connected with county resources.

Holiday Programs

Offered at Thanksgiving and the Winter Holiday season, the holiday program provides a family of 4 to 6 people a traditional holiday meal.
